3 Pieces of Advice when Starting a CrossFit Gym

3 Pieces of Advice when Starting a CrossFit Gym

Have you been wanting and waiting to launch your own CrossFit gym? Glofox have put together three key areas for focus, if you’re thinking of opening a CrossFit Box in the near future.

1. Create a Business Plan

Often, CrossFit owners assume their passion and optimism is enough to build a successful fitness business. Others say they were too busy to create a CrossFit business plan. However, running a business without a plan can prove even more time-consuming in the long run.

Take the time to sit down, research and develop this plan in full pre start up, in an attempt to help transition from a trainer to a business owner mindset. In order to run a successful CrossFit gym, you need to acknowledge this new terrain and start thinking like an owner. It’ll take some getting used to but just like with your fitness regimen, perseverance will get you through.

2. Be Different

CrossFit now have over 7000 affiliate gyms, with boutique chains adding new studios at a rate of 450% a year since 2010. The explosion of the micro gym trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. With the intensity of competition as it is, there’s no room for clone CrossFit boxes, but there is plenty of room for those who decide to stand out from the crowd and make themselves that little bit different.

Map out how you’re CrossFit is going to be different from others. Ask yourself questions like; What makes my CrossFit business unique? Why would somebody train at my CrossFit gym as opposed to the gym up the road? Once you identify a unique selling point, believe in your idea and develop a plan for implementation. Set a vision for your CrossFit gym and make small steps towards achieving this vision each and every day. Try not to fall into the trap of price and aesthetics, focus on goals and the community aspect.

3. Make Things Personal

Show interest in your client’s fitness journey. We’re not talking about being nosy, but simply conveying your undying passion for CrossFit, fitness and of course, your clients. Start as you mean to go on and show exactly how much drive your CrossFit community shares.

Spend time with each new client whether it be 10 minutes or 30 minutes, depending on the size of your CrossFit gym. Take the time to sit down and explain what it is exactly your CrossFit prides itself in. Tell the client what to expect over the coming weeks and ensure they have realistic expectations in terms of their fitness goals. Establishing this relationship ensures that your members trust to come to you if they have any questions or issues, giving you the chance to retain customers who may have otherwise just walked away without an explanation.

And don’t forget, if you’re looking for CrossFit gym management software to help kickstart your CrossFit gym and really help your business stand out from the crowd, just give us a call. We’ll talk you through how to drive your business for growth.

"I think Glofox speaks to lots of different fitness businesses. I looked at a few options, but the Glofox positioning was more flexible. Without it the business wouldn't be scaleable”
